What is your favorite form of physical exercise?
I love ballet class-especially barre and beginning of center. while I don’t jump anymore and have been modifying, there’s still something sublime of moving gracefully with music- and in unison with others. And then there’s the sculpting ballet tends to bring out which is an added benefit.
I’ve been athletic most of my life. Used to run 4-6 miles a day during my residency and do ballet a few times a week which helped clear my head. But my joints didn’t love it – especially after getting back surgery .
Yoga is fine- I even did a teacher training but doesn’t appeal to me now– especially in any mixed class. It’s way to easy for me – miss secretly very competitive, to overdo it. I tend to be hyper-mobile.
I think most exercise recommended is unnecessarily strenuous. endorphins mean you generated pain and microtears or other oxidative damage. they’re the body’s way of narcotizing pain.
While actual reps total for most exercises in ballet are -4-6, I still get great results afterwards.
Walking is fun but you only work your body in one plane and that’s kind of boring -but it’s fun to be outside!
